Koksijde Cross 07

The Koksijde Dune Cross marked the latest round of the UCI World Cup Cross and as ever the November 25 date drew a large number of British spectators, (Many from London and its surrounds) combining this event with the Ghent Six held a little distance away. Simon, Chris and Andy from the Norwood Paragon's rode there!

Helen Wyman and Gabi Day pose in front of their new motor caravan

Huge crowds ringed the course (Like a footie match in the UK)

Helen Wyman held 2nd on lap one, but then fell back to fourth, although she closed on third near race end

Winner at the last round Amercian Katie Compton led on lap one, but as she said running in sand was 'very hard' and she had to settle for second

Race winner Daphne den Brand went clear of the field to win

Elite men

Sven Nys sat back for many laps before he attacked in the final laps to win.

Rob Jebb was the only Brit and despite a terrible grid position he rode a good race, shame there were no Peaks!

Bart Wellens led for a few laps before the race came together again

A large lead group developed, here Nys heads a resurgent Erwin Vervecken (World Champ) before he went clear

The sand dunes can take a heavy toll on the legs

The noise and excitement of the race was in stark contrast to the Koksijde War Cemetry of World War One and Two
