MaXx Exposure is one of the boldest events of the mountain biking year; an
80 mile night enduro on the South Downs Way from Beachy Head to Queen Elizabeth
Country Park on September 22/23.
Organisers Trail Break and Exposure Lights lay on plenty to help you along
the way, from high visibility reflective trail signs to a BBQ breakfast to remember
at the finish, plus transport solutions to that old end to end ride dilemma.
"It's a real buzz! For sheer atmosphere and enthusiasm, this has been
the event of the year for us for the last couple of years", says Martin
Harrison from Trail Break. "Everyone has thrown themselves into it 110%,
the riders, our team, our sponsors and supporters who run the checkpoints. Like
any true challenge, it brings out the best in people. "
This year's MaXx has even more to offer the nocturnal biker, from the classic
challenge itself to guided courses for night riding newcomers:
MaXx Support
The MaXx is a team effort with local shops and companies pitching in to make
it tick. USE, Quest Adventure and South Downs Bikes will be back once again
to provide on the trail support at the checkpoints and will no doubt be competing
for the unnoficial 'best checkpoint' award again, so expect the unexpected!
Last year's riders enjoyed tea and home made cakes, and an impromptu barbecue,
courtesy of our checkpoint crews! Red Planet Bikes and Velocity Bikes will be
in attendance at base to welcome riders home and help run the Mini MaXx. And
at the end of an 80 mile long night, Phil's Unfeasibly Big Breakfast in a Bun
and free on site camping will be the most welcome rewards in the world!
Light Hire
Lighting power is always the big hurdle in taking on a ride like this. The world
renowned Exposure Lights range goes "MaXx" for 2008 and riders of
the MaXx event will be able to buy/hire lights from any of the retailers supporting
the event; Quest Adventure, South Downs Bikes, Red Planet Bikes and Velocity
Bikes.
Mini MaXx & QE Park night demo and events
If the full MaXx sounds like a leap in the dark too far for you, there's the
Mini MaXx which starts and finishes at QE Park and features an out and back
run to the MaXx checkpoint at Cocking, with all the features and support of
the full MaXx, including your breakfast and event t shirt.
Also on site at QE Park will be the Velocity Trail and Butser Night Flight.
Local trail experts Velocity Bikes have designed a special short loop in the
forest perfect for testing lights and yourself against the darkness. If you're
a night riding newbie, South Downs trail instructor Grant Taylor of downlandbiking.co.uk
will be on hand to ride with you and give you tips as you go round. You can
head out every hour on the hour with Grant from 6pm till midnight or simply
do your own laps. The guys from Exposure will there to set you up with their
latest lights for you to try out free of charge. Then round off your night with
an invigorating descent of Butser Hill, the highest point on the downs!
