Having ridden at the Good Friday Track Meeting just once, I am now an addict
and have signed up for the 2007 event already! It is everything that is great
about track racing, all packed into one day.
It will boast some of the biggest stars in cycling (Olympic Champion Bradley
Wiggins headed a star studded list of riders last year) and it is watched by
the most enthusiastic supporters of the sport. True to cycling generally, riders
and spectators rub shoulders – you may never get as close to your sporting
heroes as you do here - and being England in spring time, the weather is bound
to be good?!
For most riders it is the biggest crowd they will ride in front of, but what
makes it so unique is that the spectators are right up against the fence with
a friendly word as you hold the fence waiting to start, or ready to bang on
the boards and cheer you on when the racing is under way.
There is racing for endurance and sprinters and for spectators it is the a
great family day out, all at the only remaining sporting venue from the 1948
London Olympics
- Riders: entries close on 9 March (TODAY!)
