CTC - Challenge rides

Details of this year’s Challenge Rides, the only sportive events to raise money to improve cycling for all, have been announced by CTC – the UK’s national cyclists’ organisation.

The David Duffield Challenge (3rd June in Corsham, near Bath), the Ron Kitching Challenge (23rd June, York) and the Phil & Friends Challenge (12th August, Peak District) offer a range of distances from family routes to 100km or 150km and raise vital funds for the campaigning work of CTC Charitable Trust.

Challenge Rides co-ordinator, Matt Mallinder, said: “These rides aren’t just challenging sportives in their own right; they make possible work like this year’s successful battle to clear the name of convicted cyclist Daniel Cadden.”

David Duffield Challenge
- June 3
TV commentator David Duffield hosts this ride on his favourite new routes around Wiltshire. The day includes an invitation for tea at the home of Alex Moulton.

Ron Kitching Challenge - June 23
Taking its name from one of the UK’s most prominent and colourful cyclists, these rides include some of Ron’s favourite routes over the North Yorkshire Moors. The route across the Howardian Hills and the North Yorks Moors both tease and reward with a couple of 16% climbs – includes the option of The Chimney; a genuine 33% climb.

Phil & Friends Challenge - August 12
Named after the TV cycling commentator and former CTC president the classic 150km route with over 2600m of climbing establishes the ride as the UK's Etape. A choice of tough but rewarding routes over the Peak District climbs of Holme Moss and Winnats Pass treat riders to some spectacular scenery.

Contact/Entry
Entry to the rides, which are way-marked, costs £12.50 for CTC members and £15.00 for non-members. All participants will receive certificates, and special event merchandise will also be available. For an entry form, sponsorship form, or for more details visit ctc.org.uk/challengerides or email challengerides@ctc.org.uk
