You know it's summer when ...

The Beastway "please explain the lap times" questions re-appear

The times in those "raw" results do not account for the stagerred starts, there is one stopwatch only that starts as the first wave of Experts shoots off. The clever sofware will then work out effective times by category.

Almost right, Sylvain....

The times *do* account for the staggered starts - we input a start time for each category. However, the program works out a finish order based on one winner, who is almost always the first expert male.

Within that finish order there will be some people who have overtaken riders from an earlier start. However if a rider from start 3 overtakes about half of the riders from start 2 - then many of those still ahead of him/her may have been riding for longer. Hence the finish times go up and down a bit as you go down the list.

Thanks again for a good night of racing, the course was nice and tricky especially the corners in the woods. I don't suppose anyone has got any photos of it have they? I know that there was a chap called Rik who took some brilliant photos from race 1(couldn't make that week)! I'm not sure if that was him snapping away last night.
