As part of Reading Cycling Club’s commemoration of their club mate Anthony Maynard, a special jersey, designed by Anthony’s sister, Theresa, is now available.
“When we first thought about how to commemorate Anthony with a jersey there were some understandable reservations about taking to the road in a jersey that potentially would stir painful memories for us all” said Reading CC’s Clothing Secretary Steve Bale. He continued, “With Theresa's excellent and sensitive design what we have is an evocative piece that works as a true celebration of Anthony and his cycling. I will be wearing mine on those happy summer club runs which are where I have the sharpest and fondest memories of Anthony.”
The jersey has been designed specifically for summer; using Coolmax fabric with 3/4 concealed zip and 3 rear pockets. It can only be purchased from www.anthonymaynardsportive.org and orders will close on May 24th to ensure availability for the sportive. All profits from the sale of the jersey will be distributed to the event charities.
The Anthony Maynard Sportive is being held on July 19th to honour Reading Cycling Club’s Anthony Maynard who, aged 25, tragically lost his life in July 2008 when struck by a vehicle whilst cycling in an evening club ride. Organised by his club mates, the Anthony Maynard Sportive is being run on a not for profit basis with all proceeds being distributed to charities that reflect Anthony’s interests.
Event sponsorship to date includes mechanical support from CycleZone, organic nutrition from Meridian Foods, Rocks Cordials and True Food Co-op, hydration from The Instant Water Company, sports massage services from Vanessa Munday along with print & design from Conservatree and rider draw prizes from Green Bike Pyrenees and others.
