VC Deal Fowlmead Cyclo Cross
A new event will be promoted on Saturday 17th January 2009 and promoted at Fowlmead Country Park, Near Deal Kent .
The racing was to a very high standard on a fast and technical 3Km course, which featured 2 steep run-ups, one set just after a fiendish set of huddles for extra running, the course included a number of nasty dead turn to break-up the flow of the racing, the weather was windy and bright, the rain thankfully held off, those who didn’t make missed out.
A number of the races featured complete cyclo-cross novices, which can only be good for the sport, the action kicked off with the first VC Deal win of the day in the U10 & U12 race.
VC Deal’s Matt Newington – led from start to finish in the U10 & U12 Race, which was run in a howling wind, the course featured some technical sections, and tricky woodland stretch with steep banks to test the young riders. Henry Sayers of San Fairy Ann CC was the victor in the U10 category.
The promoting club filled the first 5 spots in the Youth Race, which was won by Nicholas Kearney VC Deal U16, Thomas Butler VC Deal finished 4th overall and secured the U14 Win.
Kevin Knox (Dulwich Paragon) was the class of the field in the main event, only Jon Lyons (2nd Place and 1st Vet) of G.S Invicta/Eye Level Optical was able to stay in touch for the early laps. With Paul Sheers (3rd) and Andy Kay (4th) of Sydenham Wheelers not far behind. Ciaran O’Grady of VC Deal/Hammonds/Activ rode well to win the Junior Category coming home 5th overall. Alex Robbins of Dulwich Paragon secured 3rd place in the Seniors race finishing in 6th position overall.
The Womens race was won by Delia Beddis of Dulwich Paragon, who defeated Nicki Barron (2nd Place) and Chris Johnson (3rd Place) both of Ashford Tri.
