Koksijde World Cup Cross

Koksijde World Cup Cross

Huge crowds make so much noise

It may be the least popular cross race with the professionals as this dune based cross race sits just outside the cross race heartland of eastern Belgium.

Cheer on Helen WymanWhat may not be ideal for the pro's is great for Londoners and people in the south as it's the easiest for us to visit.

Koksijde is situated on the coast at a Belgian Airforce base built adjacent to the sand dunes and which makes this area a very popular holiday spot.

Dunkirk is close by and the long golden beaches of De Panne are just a few kilometres away and offer cafes and bars aplenty. Within the town you will find the Nico Matan fan club and other cycling mentions.

Many people combine a visit to the cross with a night at the Ghent Six Day track racing.

The sand dunes dominate everything and they create a natural amphitheatre for the lively and huge crowd that makes the seaside rock.

On the program are races for local youth, juniors, World Cup Women and then the World cup men. It really is something to see when the top stars hit the sand!

Watch out for the dodgy frites and mayo!

Do also visit the military cemetery situated near the final corner of the course, a reminder of the fierce fighting in the area during World War One and Two.
